Ceremonial Grade
No other blend of tea is as steeped in Japanese tradition as ceremonial grade matcha. Japanese tea ceremonies are an important cultural practice between a host and their guests. The importance of the ceremony is highlighted by the quality of matcha that is expected to be served. As such, ceremonial grade matcha is blended from only selectively picked tea leaves during the years very first harvest.
The young tea leaves create a sweet mild flavour. Because of the delicacy of the flavour, ceremonial grade matcha is best blended with hot water only. Milk, sweeteners, and other mixes are not required as this tea offers the smoothest taste. Ceremonial grade matcha is perfect for the most formal of Samurai ceremonies and Sunday brunch with friends.
Café Grade
The Café grade of our matcha tea is our most popular blend. It is delicious, versatile, and very smooth. In modern day Japan, the matcha drink menu has expanded to include lattes, smoothies, and cold drinks while maintaining it's calming influence. A cup of matcha is a great opportunity to take a moment to find inner focus for the day.
Matcha is naturally lightly caffeinated, making this a great alternative to your morning coffee. Café grade matcha can be enjoyed on it's own with hot water, but many love to add milk and sugar to taste. Try mixing this with frothed milk for a creamy matcha latte treat.
Culinary Grade
Culinary grade matcha is cultivated later in the growing season. These tea leaves are more mature giving this blend of matcha a much stronger taste. Typically the flavour is a too bitter for making drinks with, but is perfect to add a green punch of flavour in the kitchen.
Culinary matcha powders strong taste, means it blends well with other flavours when cooking. This matcha powder is a great addition to your favourite baking recipes and smoothies. When used in baking and particularly added to sweet recipes, matcha take on a very different flavour profile. It still maintains it's signature green colour.
